About UFC Throwdown
Opus developed UFC: Throwdown (full title Ultimate Fighting Championship: Throwdown), and Crave Entertainment released it in North America for the PlayStation 2 in June 2002. A GameCube version followed that July. Capcom published it in Japan, where the PS2 release was called UFC 2: Tapout. Fights take place in the octagon and move between stand-up striking, takedowns and grappling on the mat, with a roster of 28 fighters.
There are five modes. Career has you create a fighter, choose a fighting style, clear a set of skill challenges and win five sparring matches before entering an eight-man tournament; the cycle repeats until your fighter has learned five styles. UFC Mode asks you to pick a heavyweight or light heavyweight and win four bouts to earn a title fight, with a silver belt for the first win and a gold one for winning again with the same fighter. Arcade is ten straight wins, Tournament takes up to eight players, and Exhibition is a single one-on-one fight. Reviews at the time were middling, with a 68 on Metacritic for the PS2 version.
How it runs in your browser
Slayoner’s fan project runs the PS2 release on snuri00’s browser runtime, which uses WebAssembly and WebGPU. Pressing Play opens ufc2.online in a new tab. Nothing needs installing, and the site pulls in the game data itself, so you don’t supply a disc image. When the game appears, click on it once so it starts reading your keyboard.
The host also offers private rooms with chat. Its English guide notes that two-player mode for this title hasn’t been tested online, so a room is not a guarantee that both people can fight each other. Exhibition and the other modes against the computer are the dependable way to play. Saving isn’t listed as a feature, so a long Career run may not survive a closed tab.
Controls and devices
You can use a keyboard or a game controller. A controller sits closer to the PS2 pad the game was designed for, which helps with the many strike and grapple inputs. The key layout isn’t listed here, so check the host’s page or the game’s options when it loads.
Play on a desktop or laptop in a current Chrome or Edge. Phones aren’t listed as supported, and browsers without WebGPU may fail to start the game.
Who it’s for
This page is for MMA fans curious about how the sport looked in games before UFC Undisputed and the EA Sports UFC series, and for anyone who played Throwdown on a PS2 and wants another round. It works best as a quick Exhibition fight or a run through UFC Mode. If you want head-to-head online play you can rely on, see our multiplayer list for games where it has been confirmed.
Is UFC Throwdown Free, Safe and Official?
Can I fight a friend online in UFC Throwdown?
Maybe. The host has private rooms with chat, but its guide says this game’s two-player mode hasn’t been tested online. Treat online fights as experimental.
Is this the official UFC Throwdown?
No. It’s a fan project by Slayoner that runs the PS2 version in a browser. It isn’t made or endorsed by the UFC, Crave Entertainment or Opus.
Do I need my own copy of the game?
No. The host loads the game data on its own, so there are no files to find or import. You only need a current Chrome or Edge on a computer.
