About WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain

Yuke’s built Here Comes the Pain, and THQ released it in North America for the PlayStation 2 in October 2003. A sequel to Shut Your Mouth, it closed out the SmackDown! branding after five games; the series continued from there as SmackDown vs. Raw. Many wrestling fans still point to it as a high point for the whole run.

The version linked here is a web port of the PS2 release made by a developer known as Slayoner. You can wrestle on your own or go online for one-on-one matches against other people.

How it runs in your browser

Pressing play opens wwepain.online in a new tab. The port depends on WebGPU, a newer graphics interface that not every browser or device supports. For the best chance of it loading, use a current Chrome or Edge, and a machine that has a graphics card. If the page stays blank or shows an error, WebGPU support is the first thing to check. Phones aren’t supported.

Online play comes in two forms: public 1v1 matches, and private rooms for facing someone you know, with chat built in. Nothing needs to be downloaded or installed, and you don’t have to supply your own copy of the game.

Saving isn’t listed for this port, so expect to start from the menus each visit.

Controls and devices

You can play with a keyboard or a game controller. A controller is the closer match to how the game felt on the PS2. If your gamepad isn’t picked up right away, press any button once the page has loaded; browsers usually wait for input before they report a connected controller.

The key layout isn’t listed here, so check the game’s options or the host site for bindings before your first match.

Who it’s for

This port is aimed at people who grew up with early-2000s WWE games and want a quick way back in, and at anyone looking for a head-to-head match against a real opponent instead of the computer. If you want more games with online play, browse our multiplayer list.

Is WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain Free, Safe and Official?

Is this the official WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain?

No. It’s an unofficial fan port of the PS2 game by Slayoner, hosted on wwepain.online. It isn’t made or endorsed by WWE, Yuke’s or THQ.

Why won’t Here Comes the Pain load in my browser?

The port needs WebGPU. Switch to an up-to-date Chrome or Edge, running on a machine with a graphics card; phones and older browsers may not run it.

Can I play Here Comes the Pain online with a friend?

Yes. Besides public 1v1 matches, you can set up a private room with chat and play someone you know.
