About Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
Capcom released Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, subtitled Fight for the Future, in arcades in 1999 on its CP System III hardware. It was the last revision of Street Fighter III. A Dreamcast port followed in 2000, and PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions arrived in 2004: in Japan the PS2 game was sold on its own, while North America got it inside Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. The version here is the PS2 one.
The game is known for its parry system. Pressing toward an attack at the right moment deflects it without taking damage and leaves room to hit back. 3rd Strike refined the system, including the red parry, which can be done while blocking. Chun-Li returns for this revision alongside four new fighters, Makoto, Remy, Q and Twelve, bringing the roster to 19 with Akuma as a regular pick. Arcade mode runs through ten opponents, including a character-specific rival near the end, with Gill as the final boss. After each win, a judgement system grades your offense, defense and technique.
The PS2 release has a few differences from the Dreamcast one. It is based on earlier arcade revisions, so some unblockable setups that the Dreamcast version removed are still there, and it lets you choose between the arcade and Dreamcast soundtracks.
How it runs in your browser
Slayoner’s fan project runs the PS2 release on snuri00’s browser runtime, which relies on WebAssembly and WebGPU. Pressing Play opens streetfighter3.online in a new tab. The site loads the game data itself, so there’s no install and no disc image to track down. Click on the game once it’s showing so it picks up your keys.
The host offers private rooms with chat, but its English guide says two-player mode for this game hasn’t been tested online. A room may open without a two-player match running properly, so arcade mode against the computer is the dependable option. Saving isn’t listed as a feature.
Controls and devices
You can use a keyboard or a game controller. Parrying depends on precise timing, and many players find a pad or an arcade stick more comfortable than keys for that. The key layout isn’t listed here, so check the host’s page or the game’s options before your first fight.
Play in a current Chrome or Edge on a desktop or laptop. Phones aren’t listed as supported, and a browser without WebGPU may not start the game.
Who it’s for
This suits fighting game players who know 3rd Strike by reputation and want to try it without hunting down old hardware, and returning fans who want to practise parries against the computer. If reliable online matches are the priority, see our multiplayer list for games where online play has been confirmed.
