About Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
Capcom released Street Fighter Anniversary Collection for the PlayStation 2 in North America in August 2004. An Xbox version followed in Japan and Europe that October and in North America in February 2005; its main difference was online play for 3rd Strike over Xbox Live. The PS2 bundle itself was sold only in North America. In Japan, both games came out on the PS2 as separate releases.
The collection pairs two of Capcom’s best-known fighting games. Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition dates from 2003. It first came out as a PS2 game in Japan and later had a limited arcade release. Its hook is choice: each character can be picked in one of five versions taken from different editions of Street Fighter II, labeled Normal, Champ, Turbo, Super and Super T, so fighters from different releases can meet in one match.
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is the third version of Street Fighter III, released in arcades in 1999. The PS2 port in this collection is largely the same as the Dreamcast version from 2000.
How it runs in your browser
The browser version is a fan project by Slayoner, built on snuri00’s runtime, which runs the PS2 collection with WebAssembly and WebGPU. Pressing Play opens streetfighteranniversary.online in a new tab. Nothing needs to be installed, and the host loads the game files automatically, so you don’t import a disc image.
A current Chrome or Edge on a computer is the safe choice. Saving isn’t listed as a feature, which matters little for a fighting game played in short sessions.
The host documents private-room fights for both games in the collection. Both players join the same room, and both browsers have to select the same game first. The guest then issues the challenge from the character select screen.
Controls and devices
You can play with a keyboard or a game controller. Click inside the game after it loads so it picks up your input. Special moves rely on directional motions such as quarter circles, which many players find easier on a controller or a stick than on arrow keys. Phones aren’t listed as supported, so use a desktop or laptop.
Who it’s for
It suits players who grew up on Street Fighter II in arcades or on the PS2, and fighting game fans who want to try 3rd Strike without tracking down old hardware. Hyper Street Fighter II’s mix of character versions is a good way to compare how the series changed across its editions. For more one-on-one games, see our multiplayer list.
