About Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
Midway took Mortal Kombat out of the one-on-one arena in 2005. Shaolin Monks, released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, is an action-adventure spin-off that retells the events of Mortal Kombat II. You play the Shaolin monks Liu Kang and Kung Lao as they fight across Outworld to protect Earthrealm, beating their way past familiar faces from the series, with Fatalities still part of the moveset. The original could be played alone or in two-player co-op.
This browser version comes from Slayoner, a fan developer who runs the PS2 release on the web. Single Player and Versus both work, and Versus can also be played online.
How it runs in your browser
The game opens on mortalkombatsm.online in a new tab, not inside our page. There is nothing to install, and you don’t need your own copy of the game.
The important requirement is WebGPU, a newer graphics interface that not every browser supports. It needs WebGPU, which in practice means current Chrome or Edge on a PC with working graphics drivers. If your browser or hardware lacks WebGPU support, the game may not start at all.
Progress saving isn’t listed, so treat it as something to play in sittings rather than a long campaign you come back to over several days.
Modes and online play
Single Player covers the story campaign. Versus pits two fighters against each other, and you can play it online as a one-on-one match against another player. The original’s two-player co-op story is not listed as an online option here, so online play is Versus only.
Controls and devices
You can play with a keyboard or a controller. For a combo-heavy brawler that was designed around a PS2 pad, a controller is the closer match to how it originally felt. Phones are not supported, and since WebGPU is required anyway, a desktop or laptop with an up-to-date Chrome or Edge is the safest choice.
Is Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks Free, Safe and Official?
Why won’t Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks load?
This version needs WebGPU. Try a recent Chrome or Edge on a computer with a graphics card; older browsers and phones may not run it.
Can I play Shaolin Monks online with a friend?
Yes. Versus mode supports online one-on-one matches against another player.
Is this the official game?
No. It is a fan project by Slayoner that runs the PS2 version in the browser, and it isn’t made or endorsed by Warner Bros. Games.
