About Tekken 4
Namco released Tekken 4 in arcades in August 2001, running on its System 246 hardware, and brought it to the PlayStation 2 in Japan in March 2002. The PS2 version reached Europe and North America in September 2002. It’s the fourth main game in the series, and its biggest change was to the stages.
Earlier Tekken games mostly took place on open, flat floors. Tekken 4 added walls and obstacles that cause extra damage when a fighter is knocked into them, along with uneven ground and hazards that open up new juggles. A switch move helps a cornered player trade places with the opponent, and fighters can move around before a round starts, something no other game in the series allows. It also introduced “just frame” inputs that reward exact timing. Characters move more slowly and fluidly than before, and a new graphics system improved the lighting.
The PS2 release has 22 fighters, two more than the arcade game. Ten are open from the start and the rest unlock through Story mode, which tells each character’s story with cutscenes. New faces include Christie Monteiro, Craig Marduk, Steve Fox, Combot and Violet. The PS2 version also adds Tekken Force, a side-scrolling beat ’em up mini-game, and a practice mode with life bars.
How it runs in your browser
Slayoner hosts the PS2 release on tekken4.online through snuri00’s browser runtime, which uses WebAssembly and WebGPU. Pressing Play opens the site in a new tab. The host fetches the game files automatically, so you don’t install anything or supply your own copy. A current Chrome or Edge is the safest browser to use. Saving isn’t listed among the host’s features, so Story mode unlocks may not carry over between visits.
The host offers private rooms with chat. Its English guide says that two-player mode for this game hasn’t been tested online, so online fights are experimental. They may work, but there’s no promise every mode supports two active players.
Controls and devices
Tekken maps its four main buttons to left punch, right punch, left kick and right kick, and both a keyboard and a controller work here. A controller is the closer match to the PS2 pad. Click inside the game picture first so it picks up your input. Phones aren’t listed as supported, so plan on a desktop or laptop.
Who it’s for
It’s for Tekken players who want to revisit the walled stages and Tekken Force of the PS2 era, and for anyone curious about the entry that sits between Tekken 3 and Tekken 5. Practice mode and the computer opponents are the reliable way to play while online rooms remain untested. The next game’s handheld update is on our Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection page.
Is Tekken 4 Free, Safe and Official?
Can I play Tekken 4 online against a friend?
The host has private rooms with chat, but its own guide says this game’s two-player mode hasn’t been tested online. Treat online fights as experimental.

Is this the official game?
No. It’s a fan project by Slayoner running the PS2 version, and it isn’t made or endorsed by Bandai Namco.
