About Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Capcom released Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes in arcades in March 2000 on Sega’s NAOMI hardware, with a Dreamcast version in Japan a week later. PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions followed in Japan in September 2002 and reached North America over the next few months. The version here is the Japanese PS2 release.
It is a crossover fighter with 56 playable characters drawn from Marvel comics and Capcom’s own games, along with three new characters made for it: Amingo, Ruby Heart and SonSon. Teams grew from two fighters in the previous game to three. You can tag a teammate in at any time, call one in for an assist (each character has three assist types to choose from), or use a snapback to force your opponent to switch characters. The layout uses four attack buttons and two assist buttons. On consoles, the arcade’s experience system was replaced with a shop, the Secret Factor, where points earned in play buy hidden characters, stages and colors.
The Japanese PS2 release once supported online play over a modem, a service Capcom ended in 2004. Online play in the browser comes from the host, not from that old service.
How it runs in your browser
Slayoner’s fan project runs the PS2 release on snuri00’s browser runtime, built with WebAssembly and WebGPU. Pressing Play opens marvelvscapcom2.online in a new tab. The site loads the game data on its own, so there is nothing to install and no disc image to provide. Click on the game once it’s visible so it starts reading your keys.
Because this is the Japanese release, the menus are in Japanese, while the fights are presented in English. The host documents one-on-one fights in private rooms: the guest joins from the Arcade character-select screen by pressing Start, and then both players choose their teams. Saving isn’t listed as a feature, so unlocks from the Secret Factor may not carry over between visits.
Controls and devices
A keyboard or a game controller works. With six buttons and frequent tags and assists, a controller is usually easier to manage than a keyboard. The key layout isn’t listed here, so check the host’s page or the game’s options.
Use a current Chrome or Edge on a desktop or laptop. Phones aren’t listed as supported, and a browser without WebGPU may not start the game.
Who it’s for
This suits fighting game fans who want its fast, crowded three-on-three battles, and anyone who simply wants to put together a team of favorites from both sides. The Japanese menus take a moment to learn, but the fights need no translation. For other games with online play, see our multiplayer list.
