About Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon was Midway’s last big 3D Mortal Kombat, released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in October 2006 and for the Wii in 2007. Its story brings the original timeline to an end: every warrior in the series is drawn to a final battle for the power of Blaze, and the roster reflects that, with more than 60 fighters taken from every earlier game.

Beyond the usual arcade and versus modes, it had Konquest, an adventure mode in which you play the new hero Taven; Kreate-a-Fighter, for building your own warrior; and Kreate-a-Fatality, which replaced fixed finishing moves with a chain of brutal moves you string together. A kart racing mode, Motor Kombat, was included as a bonus.

How it runs in your browser

This browser version is the PS2 release, made by Lauta, the developer behind our Mortal Kombat 9 and Tekken listings. His site calls it “Mortal Kombardo: Cagarmageddon”. Pressing Play opens mka.lauta.site in a new tab, and there’s nothing to install.

The page has display options, including a choice between the original 4:3 picture and widescreen, and settings in English and Spanish.

Online play

Lauta lists online play for this game, and a chat panel next to the game is where players arrange matches. As with his other ports, most of the community writes in Spanish.

Controls and devices

You can play with a keyboard or a controller. A controller is the closer match to the PS2 original, whose shoulder buttons the page lists alongside the face buttons. It’s built for computers; phones aren’t listed.

Midway’s earlier spin-off, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and NetherRealm’s 2011 reboot, Mortal Kombat 9, are also playable in your browser.
