About SCP: Containment Breach

Undertow Games first released SCP: Containment Breach in 2012 as a free first-person horror game based on the collaborative SCP Foundation fiction. You play a D-class test subject inside a secret facility that holds dangerous anomalies. When containment fails, you’re left on your own to find a way out.

Its most famous threat is SCP-173, a statue that can move only when no one is looking at it. Your character has to blink, and a meter on screen shows when the next blink is coming, which turns every encounter into a matter of timing. Other SCPs follow different rules, so surviving means learning how each one behaves. SCP-106, a decaying figure that can pass through walls, is one of the most persistent. The facility is generated procedurally, so runs don’t play out the same way twice, and items you pick up, such as keycards, documents and a gas mask, help you get further.

How it runs in your browser

This browser version is a fan port by q8j, hosted on wasm.rip. It plays right here on this page, with nothing to download or install. The original game is free and shared under a Creative Commons license.

Saving isn’t listed as supported, so plan on finishing a run in one sitting or starting over next time.

Controls and devices

It’s a first-person game for keyboard and mouse, so play on a computer. Phones and controllers aren’t listed as supported. The exact bindings aren’t listed here; check the game’s options once it loads.

Tips

Keep SCP-173 on screen whenever it’s nearby, and watch the blink meter. The game also lets you blink on purpose, which resets the meter at a moment you choose instead of the worst possible one. Headphones help too, since sound is often the first warning that something is close. Read the documents you find, because they describe how specific SCPs behave, and knowing those rules is how you get past them.
