About Inscryption

Inscryption is a 2021 game from Daniel Mullins Games, the developer behind Pony Island and The Hex, published by Devolver Digital. It opens in a dark cabin, where a figure named Leshy sits across a table from you and runs a card game. You place creature cards on a small board, and many of them cost blood, which you pay by sacrificing cards already in play. Damage doesn’t lower a health bar; it tips a set of scales, and a battle ends when the scales tip far enough to one side.

Between battles you travel a branching map to collect new cards and items, and when a run ends you start again with what you’ve learned. You can also get up from the table and look around the cabin, where escape-room style puzzles hide clues and objects that matter to the game. Inscryption has more going on than it first shows, so it’s best played knowing as little as possible.

How it runs in your browser

This is an unofficial web port by reeyuki, hosted on wasm.rip. It plays right here on this page in the player above, with no download or install.

Save support isn’t listed, so progress may not survive after you close the tab. Inscryption’s story runs well beyond its first few runs, so if it hooks you, the official release is the reliable way to keep your progress. It’s a single-player game with no online mode.

Controls and devices

The port is meant for a computer with a mouse and keyboard, which matches how the original is played on PC. It isn’t set up for phones or tablets, and controller support isn’t listed. A key list isn’t published here, but most of what you do at the card table is pointing and clicking.

Who it’s for

It suits players who enjoy deckbuilders, puzzle boxes and slow-building horror, and anyone who likes games that hide their real shape for a while. If card games aren’t usually your thing, the cabin puzzles and the atmosphere may still win you over, and the rules are taught as you play.

The full game is sold by Devolver Digital on PC and consoles, and it’s the version to pick for a complete playthrough.
