About NFL Street

EA Tiburon developed NFL Street, and Electronic Arts released it in January 2004 under its EA Sports BIG label, the same label behind NBA Street. It came out on the PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox. This page covers the PS2 version.

It takes American football off the stadium field. Teams play seven-on-seven, players wear street clothes instead of uniforms and helmets, and there are no fouls, penalties or injuries. Flashy play earns style points, and once you build up enough of them you unlock a Gamebreaker, an advantage that lasts for a whole drive. The idea was carried over from NBA Street.

NFL Challenge is the main mode: you build your own team and work through a series of challenges, and beating it unlocks All NFL Pickup. Quick Game and Pickup Game cover faster matches. Rosters are based on the 2003 NFL season, and a set of earlier stars appear as NFL Legends.

How it runs in your browser

The browser version is a fan project by Slayoner, built on snuri00’s runtime, which runs the PS2 game with WebAssembly and WebGPU. Pressing Play opens nflstreet.online in a new tab. Nothing needs to be installed, and the host loads the game files automatically, so you don’t import a disc image.

A current Chrome or Edge on a computer is the safe choice. Saving isn’t listed as a feature, so progress through NFL Challenge may not carry over between visits.

The host offers private rooms with chat. Its English game guide says this title’s two-player mode hasn’t been tested online, so treat online games as experimental. Playing against the computer doesn’t depend on it.

Controls and devices

You can play with a keyboard or a game controller. Click inside the game after it loads so it picks up your input. NFL Street was designed around a console pad, so a controller with an analog stick is the closer match. Phones aren’t listed as supported, so use a desktop or laptop.

Who it’s for

It suits players who remember EA Sports BIG’s arcade sports games from the PS2 era, and anyone who wants American football without playbooks full of formations. It plays as an arcade game rather than a simulation. The rosters are from 2003, so expect players from that era rather than today’s teams.

Is NFL Street Free, Safe and Official?

Can I play NFL Street online with a friend?

The host has private rooms with chat, but its own guide says this game’s two-player mode hasn’t been tested online. Treat online games as experimental.

How is NFL Street different from Madden?

It isn’t a simulation. Teams are seven-on-seven, players wear street clothes, and there are no fouls, penalties or injuries. Style points unlock a Gamebreaker that lasts a whole drive.

Is this an official EA release?

No. It’s a fan project by Slayoner that runs the PS2 version, and it isn’t made or endorsed by Electronic Arts or the NFL.
