About Boil Noodles at Night
The premise of Boil Noodles at Night could hardly be more ordinary: night has fallen and you’re preparing a bowl of instant noodles. It’s also a horror game, and a short one. That is close to everything its description gives away, and with something this small, it’s better to go in knowing little.
It belongs to a familiar strand of small indie horror built around an everyday chore. In games of that kind, the routine task is the frame, and the scares come from whatever interrupts it. Details about the original release, such as who made it and when, aren’t listed here.
The browser version is an unofficial fan port credited to sexyplankton.
How it runs in your browser
The port plays right on this page, loaded from wasm.rip, a site that hosts fan-made browser ports of PC games. You don’t need to download anything or own the original.
Saving isn’t listed for this version. Since the game is short, you can most likely see it through in one sitting, so set aside some uninterrupted time before you start.
It’s meant for a desktop browser, and phones aren’t supported.
Controls and devices
Play with a keyboard and mouse. Controller support isn’t listed, and the specific controls aren’t listed here, so watch for any prompts the game shows on screen. If the game captures your mouse to look around, Esc usually gives the cursor back.
If nothing responds when the game first appears, click once inside it so the browser sends your keys and mouse to the game rather than to the page.
Tips for playing
Horror this small works best with as few distractions as possible. Play in a dark room with headphones, silence notifications, and switch your browser to full screen (F11 in most Windows browsers, or Control-Command-F in Chrome and Safari on a Mac) so nothing on your desktop breaks the mood.
It also suits anyone curious about short-form indie horror who doesn’t want to commit to a long game. Take your time with each step of the cooking; in a game like this, rushing is how you miss things.
