About Redcoats

Most shooters drop you into a small squad on a tight map. Redcoats goes the other way. It is a first-person shooter made for the web and set in the musket era, when armies fought in lines, and it is built around large battles rather than quick skirmishes. You can fight on foot with the infantry, ride a horse, crew a cannon, sail a warship or join the push to capture a fort. Battles are described as holding up to 1,000 players, which puts it closer to a historical battle than a typical arena match.

It is an original game, not a port of an older PC or console release, so there is nothing to compare it against. What loads in the player above is the developer’s own version.

How it runs in your browser

The game is embedded here directly from redcoats.io, so you play it on this page without being sent anywhere else. There is nothing to download or install. Every match is online, so you need a steady internet connection for the whole session.

Progress saving isn’t listed for Redcoats. Think of each visit as a fresh battle rather than a campaign you pick up later.

Controls and devices

Redcoats is made for a computer with a keyboard and mouse, the usual setup for a first-person shooter. It isn’t marked as working on phones or tablets, and controller support isn’t listed, so a laptop or desktop is the way to play. We don’t have a confirmed key list for it yet, so learn the bindings from the game itself when it loads.

Who it’s for

Redcoats suits players who enjoy big, slow-building fights more than fast reflex duels. Line-battle shooters tend to reward sticking with your side and picking the right moment to fire, and the mix of infantry, cavalry, artillery and ships gives you several different roles to try within the same battle.

If you would rather play a more conventional team shooter, our Counter-Strike page and the full list of multiplayer games are good next stops.
