About Surfd
Surf began as a custom game mode on Counter-Strike community servers. Instead of shooting, players slide along steep, angled ramps, using air strafing to hold their speed and steer through long courses without falling off. It rewards smooth mouse control and a feel for momentum far more than aim.
Surfd brings that style of play to the browser. It uses Source-style movement, so the physics are built to feel familiar to anyone who surfed in Counter-Strike: Source or later games. It ships with fifteen classic surf maps, and your best times are ranked on global leaderboards, which gives every map a reason to come back to.
It suits anyone who spent time on surf servers and misses the feeling, and anyone curious why a movement mode from a shooter grew a community of its own. For the game it came from, see Counter-Strike in your browser.
How it runs in your browser
Surfd is made for the web and comes straight from its developer at surfd.net. It plays right here on this page, with nothing to download or install. It’s an online multiplayer game, and the leaderboards live online, so you need an internet connection while you play.
Controls and devices
Surf is built for a keyboard and mouse. In Source-style surf, the usual technique is to hold the strafe key that points into the ramp and turn the mouse gently the same way, rather than pressing forward. Phones aren’t supported, and controller support isn’t listed. Surfd doesn’t publish a key list in our sources, so check its settings for the exact bindings.
Tips
- Stay off the forward key while you’re on a ramp. In Source-style movement it tends to slow you down or pull you off the surface.
- Keep mouse movements smooth. Sharp flicks bleed speed.
- Run a new map slowly a few times to learn where each ramp hands off to the next before you try for a fast time.
- If you fall, look at where you lost speed. Most mistakes come from the transition between ramps, not the ramps themselves.
