About Black Ops Zombies

Treyarch turned zombies into a headline feature with Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010. Across its launch editions and map packs, the game offered ten zombies maps: new ones like Kino der Toten, Five, Ascension, Call of the Dead, Shangri-La and Moon, plus updated versions of the four maps from World at War. The formula stayed the same throughout: survive round after round, earn points from kills, and spend them on weapons, doors, perks and upgrades.

This browser version is a fan project on vel.gg that brings back all ten: Kino der Toten, Five, Ascension, Call of the Dead, Shangri-La and Moon, along with Nacht der Untoten, Verrückt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese.

How it runs in your browser

Pressing play opens vel.gg in a new tab. Choose one of the ten maps, then play it alone or with other people from the site’s online lobby. Nothing needs to be installed, and you don’t need to own Black Ops or provide any files.

The game is meant for a desktop browser; phones aren’t supported. Saving isn’t listed, but zombies matches always start from round one anyway.

Controls and devices

Play with a keyboard and mouse. Controller support isn’t listed, and the key bindings aren’t listed here, so check the game’s settings before your first round. Browser shooters usually lock the mouse when you click into the game; press Esc to get your cursor back.

Tips

If you’re new, start small. In the original game, Nacht der Untoten is the tightest and plainest map, with no perk machines, which makes it a good place to learn how rounds build. Kino der Toten makes a natural next step. Moon and Shangri-La pile on extra mechanics and are better saved for later.

When you play with others, stay close enough to revive each other, and agree on who opens which doors so nobody spends points the team needed. Alone, keep moving and plan a route around the map you can circle with the horde behind you. For other games with online play, see our multiplayer list.
