About Salty Seas

Salty Seas is an original game made for the web rather than a port of an older release. It’s an open-world pirate MMO: you take command of a warship, sail out into waters shared with other players and decide who to pick a fight with.

Combat works at two ranges. From a distance, ships trade broadsides, so the angle of your hull matters as much as your timing. Close in, you can board an enemy ship and settle things hand to hand, with swords and firearms. You can sail on your own or bring friends along as part of your crew.

How it runs in your browser

The game comes straight from its developer at saltyseas.io and plays right here on this page, so there is nothing to download or install. It’s an online multiplayer game, which means you need a steady internet connection for the whole session, and the seas you sail are shared with other players.

Progress saving isn’t listed for Salty Seas, so don’t count on keeping anything between visits. If the frame on this page feels cramped, saltyseas.io runs the same game in its own tab.

Controls and devices

Salty Seas is meant for a computer with a keyboard and mouse. It isn’t listed as working on phones, and controller support isn’t listed either. Our sources don’t include a key list, so check the in-game help or prompts the first time you set sail.

Who it’s for

It suits players who like naval combat with a social side. Sailing solo is a reasonable way to learn how broadsides and boarding work before you go looking for trouble, while a group of friends can crew up together and take on other players as a team.

Because the game runs in a browser, getting a friend started is easy: there’s nothing for them to install, only a link to open. More games you can play with other people are on our multiplayer page.
