About RimWorld
RimWorld, from Ludeon Studios, left early access in 2018. It’s a sci-fi colony simulation: a few survivors crash-land on a distant frontier world with almost nothing, and you guide them as they build shelter, grow food, research technology and defend themselves. You don’t steer colonists directly the way you would in a real-time strategy game. You set work priorities, mark zones and queue up jobs, and colonists carry them out according to their skills, moods and quirks.
What sets it apart is the AI storyteller, which decides what happens next: raids, disease, trade caravans, animal attacks, bad weather. You choose one at the start. Cassandra Classic raises the pressure steadily, Phoebe Chillax leaves longer quiet stretches, and Randy Random is exactly as unpredictable as the name suggests. The simulation covers psychology, relationships, medicine and combat in enough detail that each colony ends up with its own story.
How it runs in your browser
This port was made by sexyplankton and is hosted on wasm.rip. It plays right here on this page, with nothing to install.
Saving isn’t listed as supported. That’s a real limitation for a game where a colony often runs for many hours, so treat this version as a way to try RimWorld rather than a home for a long campaign.
Controls and devices
RimWorld is played mostly with the mouse, plus keyboard shortcuts for game speed and menus, so you’ll want a computer. Phones and controllers aren’t listed as supported. You can check the key bindings in the game’s options.
Tips
Pause often. You can stop time, give orders and then let the game run again, and most early problems are easier to handle when you plan before unpausing. For a first colony, a gentler storyteller like Phoebe gives you more room to learn. Get a roof over everyone and a reliable food source in place before worrying about anything else.
Is RimWorld Free, Safe and Official?
Is this the official RimWorld?
No. It’s an unofficial fan port and is not affiliated with Ludeon Studios. The full game is sold on Steam.
Does RimWorld save in the browser?
Saving isn’t listed as supported for this port, so a colony may not survive closing the page.
Does RimWorld work on a phone or tablet?
Phones aren’t listed as supported. RimWorld’s interface relies on a mouse, so a desktop or laptop is the way to play.
