About Harvest: Massive Encounter

Harvest: Massive Encounter is a 2008 Windows strategy game by Oxeye Game Studio, the small Swedish team that later made Cobalt. It takes the base-building half of a real-time strategy game and drops the army. You never train units. Instead you build mineral harvesters to gather resources, power plants to supply energy and defense towers to protect it all, then try to survive as waves of alien attackers keep coming.

Energy is the heart of it. Every structure needs enough power to do its job, so a base is really a network, and a weak point in your supply can leave defenses idle at the worst moment. That focus on supply and coverage gives it as much in common with tower defense as with a typical RTS.

How it runs in your browser

This is a fan port by banteg. Pressing play opens harvest.banteg.xyz in a new tab. On your first visit it fetches the game’s data before anything appears, so expect a short wait and leave the tab open. You don’t need to own the game or provide any files.

The port is meant for a desktop browser. Phones aren’t supported, and saving isn’t listed, so plan on finishing a session in one sitting.

If the page seems stuck on the first load, wait a little longer before reloading. Reloading in the middle of a download can mean starting it again.

Controls and devices

Harvest is a mouse-driven game: you place buildings and manage the base by pointing and clicking. A real mouse is much more comfortable than a trackpad when you need to place structures quickly as an attack lands. Controller support isn’t listed, and specific keyboard shortcuts aren’t listed here.

Tips

Build power before you build defenses, since an underpowered tower is wasted metal. Spread your harvesters and generators out so a single breach doesn’t take down your whole economy. Keep an eye on which way attacks come from and put your strongest coverage there. And expand at a steady pace: the waves don’t wait for you to feel ready, so a base that stops growing tends to fall behind.

Is Harvest: Massive Encounter Free, Safe and Official?

Is this the official Harvest: Massive Encounter?

No. It’s an unofficial fan port by banteg that runs in a browser. Oxeye Game Studio didn’t make or endorse it.

Do I need to download anything?

There’s nothing to install. Your first visit fetches the game data in the background, so expect a wait before the game starts.

Does Harvest: Massive Encounter work on a phone?

No. The port is meant for a desktop browser, and the game is built around a mouse.
