About There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension

Draw Me A Pixel, a French studio, released There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension for Windows and macOS in August 2020, then for iOS and Android in December 2020 and the Nintendo Switch in April 2021. Pascal Cammisotto directed and wrote it. It expands on There Is No Game, a short game he made in 2015 that won that year’s Newgrounds Construct Jam on the theme of deception.

The joke starts on the first screen. A narrator called Game insists there is no game here and does everything he can to stop you from playing, and you keep clicking until something breaks. What breaks loose is Mr. Glitch, a software bug with big plans he never quite gets to explain, and the story sends you through parodies of other games: a Sherlock Holmes style detective adventure, a top-down quest modeled on The Legend of Zelda and a free-to-play clicker full of loot boxes and ads.

Underneath the jokes, it’s a point-and-click puzzle game in the tradition of Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island, with a hint system for when you’re stuck. It’s voiced in English, with subtitles in several languages. Critics compared it to The Stanley Parable, and the PC version holds a Metacritic score of 89.

How it runs in your browser

This is an unofficial web port by dasher, listed on wasm.rip. It’s a Unity WebGL build of the PC game, version 1.0.40, and pressing Play opens the wasm.rip page in a new tab. The first load downloads about 175 MB with a progress bar, and the page keeps those files in your browser’s cache so later visits start faster.

Saving is handled on the page. Your progress is kept in browser storage, and a small floppy disk button in the top-left corner opens a menu with two options. Export save to file downloads your save as a JSON file, and Load save from file reads one back in and restarts the game with it. Export now and then, since clearing your site data would wipe the stored save. The same file lets you carry a playthrough to another browser or computer.

Controls and devices

It’s a point-and-click game, so a mouse does nearly everything; the Steam page even jokes that you can put your controller back on the shelf. The port is set up for desktop and laptop browsers. The original came out on iOS and Android, but phones haven’t been tested with this version.

Who it’s for

It suits players who enjoy games that comment on themselves, fans of The Stanley Parable and anyone who likes classic adventure puzzles with a lot of jokes in between. It’s a story you play through once, so it’s best to know little going in. The save export makes it practical to spread a playthrough over several sessions. If you want achievements and cloud saves, the official release is sold on Steam, Switch and phones.

Is There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension Free, Safe and Official?

Does There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension save in the browser?

Yes. The page keeps your save in browser storage, and a floppy disk button in the top-left corner opens two options: Export save to file, which downloads it as a JSON file, and Load save from file, which restores one and restarts the game. Export a copy now and then, because clearing your browser data wipes the stored save.

How big is the download?

About 175 MB on the first visit. The page keeps the files in your browser’s cache, so later visits load the stored copy instead of downloading everything again.

Is this the official There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension?

No. It’s an unofficial fan web port by dasher, hosted on wasm.rip, and it isn’t made or endorsed by Draw Me A Pixel. The official game is sold for PC, Mac, Switch, iOS and Android.
