About Full Throttle
Full Throttle is a graphic adventure that LucasArts developed and published in 1995. The MS-DOS and Mac OS versions came out in North America and Europe on May 19 that year. Tim Schafer designed it, and it was his first game as project lead and head writer and designer. Before that he had worked on other LucasArts titles, including The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge and Day of the Tentacle. Peter McConnell composed the music, and the game runs on the SCUMM engine.
The story is set in the near future. You play Ben, the leader of a motorcycle gang, who has to clear his name after he is framed for the murder of a beloved motorcycle manufacturing mogul. DOS.Zone’s description adds that the gang is called the Polecats, that Mark Hamill voices the villain and that the rock soundtrack is by The Gone Jackals. It is a single-player game.
Double Fine Productions developed a remastered version, released in April 2017 for Windows, the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Vita. Ports for OS X, iOS and Linux followed later in 2017, and an Xbox One version arrived in October 2020. Lucasfilm Games, part of Disney, holds the rights to the game.
How it runs in your browser
Play sends you to dos.zone in a new tab, where the 1995 MS-DOS release starts inside js-dos. That’s DOS.Zone’s browser build of the open-source DOSBox emulator, and it stands in for an old PC. The site hosts the game files, so there’s no installer, no copy of your own to track down and no account to make. DOS.Zone doesn’t show ads.
The listing sits under quest and adventure and has a rating of 5 from 17 player reviews. It’s the original game rather than the 2017 remaster. The page doesn’t say whether your progress carries over between visits, so check with DOS.Zone if you plan to play over several sittings. Listings like this can also disappear: DOS.Zone removed GTA 1 and 2 after a request from Take-Two.
Controls and devices
Full Throttle was made for a keyboard and mouse, and as a point-and-click adventure it mostly asks you to point at things on screen and click. DOS.Zone doesn’t list any keys for it, so check the game’s own options if you need them. Click once inside the emulator window after it loads so your input reaches the game.
DOS.Zone shows virtual on-screen controls on phones, but a mouse suits this game far better, so use a desktop or laptop if you can. Chromebooks haven’t been confirmed.
Who it’s for
It suits fans of LucasArts adventures who want to replay Ben’s story the way it first shipped, and anyone who knows Schafer’s later work and wants to see the first game he led. It also works as a companion to Monkey Island, since both run on SCUMM. For another LucasArts adventure from the same era, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is on DOS.Zone as well.
Is Full Throttle Free, Safe and Official?
Can I play Full Throttle online for free?
Yes. DOS.Zone runs the original MS-DOS version free in a browser tab. The site supplies the game files, so you don’t download anything or sign up.
Is this Full Throttle Remastered?
No. This is the 1995 MS-DOS game running in an emulated PC. The remastered version is a separate release that Double Fine Productions made in 2017.
Can I play Full Throttle on my phone?
DOS.Zone has virtual on-screen controls for phones, but Full Throttle was built for a keyboard and mouse, and it plays better on a computer.
