About Terraria

Re-Logic released Terraria for Windows in May 2011. It’s a 2D sandbox game with no fixed goal: you dig into a randomly generated world, gather materials, craft tools and armor, and build a base while monsters attack. NPCs move into houses you build and offer their services, and bosses mark your progress. Beating the Wall of Flesh switches the world into Hardmode, which adds tougher enemies and new materials.

The game came to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, followed by phones, the PS Vita, PS4, Xbox One, macOS, Linux and the Nintendo Switch. Re-Logic kept updating it for free long after launch, with Journey’s End in 2020, Labor of Love in 2022 and the 1.4.5 update in January 2026. By May 2026 it had sold more than 70 million copies.

How it runs in your browser

This is an unofficial port of the PC game by omonkeyzz and TAN0RR, who are credited on the site’s title screen. It runs the game itself in the browser with WebAssembly and WebGPU, so the world, inventory and progression are the PC game’s, not a cut-down remake. The site’s landing page lists version 1.4.5.8. Pressing Play opens playterraria.lol in a new tab.

Expect a large first download. On the first visit the page fetches about 790 MB of game files and stores them in your browser, and later visits start from that saved copy. You don’t need to supply your own copy of the game’s files. The page needs Chrome or Edge 137 or later with WebGPU and shows a message if your browser can’t run it. If loading fails, there’s a button that resets the downloaded files and tries again; your characters and worlds are stored separately, so that reset keeps them.

Online play goes through a relay. When you host a world, a panel shows an invite code that you can copy, make public or private, or replace with a new one. Friends join from the game’s Multiplayer menu by choosing Join via IP and typing the code as the address. We haven’t measured how well online sessions perform.

Controls and devices

Play with a keyboard and mouse as on PC. The page also passes controller input through to the game. Phones aren’t listed as supported, and with a download this size and the WebGPU requirement, a desktop or laptop is the realistic choice.

Who it’s for

It suits Terraria players who want to start a world on a computer where they can’t install the game, and curious players who want to see a full PC game run in a browser tab. Anyone planning a long playthrough should remember that the worlds live in browser storage, which clearing your site data would wipe. The official release is the better home for a long-term world.

Is Terraria Free, Safe and Official?

How big is the Terraria download?

About 790 MB on the first visit, according to the page. The files stay in your browser, so later visits start from that copy instead of downloading everything again.

Can I play Terraria online with friends?

The port includes online hosting. When you host a world, the page shows an invite code, and friends type it as the address under Multiplayer, Join via IP. We haven’t tested how well online sessions run.

Is this the official Terraria?

No. It’s an unofficial fan port by omonkeyzz and TAN0RR and isn’t affiliated with Re-Logic. The official game is sold for PC, consoles and phones.
