About StreetX

StreetX, styled streetXracing on its site, is a free street racing game made for the browser by Torchgrade and currently in beta. Races take place in online rooms of up to eight drivers: you create a room, send the invite link to friends and, if you like, set a password. There are three modes:

  • Normal, where you fight for position from the grid to the flag
  • Drift, where you link sideways corners and keep a combo going to win on points
  • Time Attack, where you chase your personal best and race the leader’s ghost

The site lists 12 circuits, from Distrito Kurogane and Viela Karasu to Porto Shiranami and Colinas Kazan, with tight alleys, industrial yards and city avenues. In the garage you can change paint, vinyls, wheels and body kits, and buy engine, tire and nitrous upgrades. After a race, replays let you watch from other drivers’ points of view to see where you lost time.

You start by borrowing an M4 GTR for a first drive against the 360R, which also gives you a feel for Drift. Torchgrade says this introduction explains the controls. Afterwards you pick a starter car for your garage.

How it runs in your browser

StreetX is a native browser game, so there’s no emulator and nothing to install. Pressing Play opens play.streetx.racing in a new tab. Torchgrade says it needs WebGL 2 and an internet connection, and that some restricted networks may block race connections. Its pages come in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

The start screen asks for a nickname and also offers Google or Discord sign-in. The privacy policy says linking either account is optional for playing and only needed to buy Cash or recover your account. Rooms have text chat, and voice chat can be turned on in the game.

On 3 November 2026, in desktop Chrome, it loaded to that start screen, marked Beta. We didn’t enter a nickname or race.

Controls and devices

The site doesn’t list the keys; the first drive teaches them, and the game lets you rebind them. On phones, the maker says StreetX works on compatible devices and browsers in landscape with touch controls, and that performance varies with your device and connection. We haven’t tested a phone or a Chromebook.

Tips

  • Play the first drive to the end, since it’s where the controls are explained.
  • Use a private room with a password if you only want to race friends.
  • In Time Attack, the leader’s ghost shows you the line to beat.

For an older take on street racing, Need for Speed: Underground 2 also runs in a browser.
