About PES 2014
Konami released Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 in 2013 on an unusually wide spread of systems: Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. It arrived late in the life of the older hardware, and its PS2 edition is often cited as the final game released for that console anywhere. PES 2015 followed a year later.
The browser version runs the PSP edition. It comes from Slayoner’s PSP Web Recomp project, by the same developer behind the browser port of WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain.
How it runs in your browser
Pressing play opens pes14.online in a new tab. From there, Quick Match starts a friendly right away, and the rest of the PSP game is reachable through its usual menus. There is also an online lobby for finding other people to play.
Nothing needs to be downloaded or installed, and you don’t have to provide your own copy of the game. Saving isn’t listed for this version, so don’t expect long-term progress to carry over between visits.
The site is meant for a desktop browser. Phones aren’t supported.
Controls and devices
Use a keyboard or a game controller. The PSP had a single analog nub and a compact set of buttons, so a standard gamepad covers everything the game expects and is the more natural way to play football. If your controller doesn’t respond at first, press a button after the page loads so the browser registers it.
Key mappings aren’t listed here; check the in-game controls screen or the site for the layout before kickoff.
Who it’s for
PES 2014 here suits people who played Pro Evolution on a PSP and want that version back without digging out the handheld, and anyone after a quick match of football in a browser tab. The online lobby also means you aren’t limited to playing the computer. For more games with online play, see our multiplayer list.
