About Cuphead

Cuphead, from Studio MDHR, came out in 2017 and is built almost entirely around boss fights. It’s a run-and-gun game first, but most people notice the look before anything else: the art was drawn by hand in the style of 1930s cartoons, with cel animation, watercolor backgrounds and an original jazz score recorded for the game.

The story is a short fable. Cuphead and his brother Mugman lose a bet to the Devil in his casino, and to pay off the debt they agree to collect the soul contracts of other debtors, which means fighting them one by one across the Inkwell Isles. Between bosses there are a handful of run-and-gun stages, and you can buy new weapons and charms that change how you play.

Cuphead is known for being hard. Bosses switch patterns over several phases, and learning them through repeated attempts is the heart of the game.

How it runs in your browser

The browser port was made by a developer known as crackers and is hosted on wasm.rip. It plays right here on this page, with nothing to download or install.

Saving isn’t listed as supported, so progress across the world map may be lost when you close the page. Short sessions focused on a few bosses suit this version best.

Controls and devices

Many people play the original with a gamepad, but controller support isn’t listed for this port, so expect to use the keyboard. Phones aren’t listed as supported either. The original game lets you view and remap keys in its options menu, which is the quickest way to learn the layout.

Who it’s for

Cuphead suits patient players who enjoy learning a fight through repetition. Each attempt teaches you a little more about a boss, and the moment a fight finally clicks is what keeps people coming back. If you want to see what the fuss is about before buying the official release, this is a quick way in, though the full game on PC and consoles is the complete, supported version.

Is Cuphead Free, Safe and Official?

Does Cuphead save in the browser?

Saving isn’t listed for this port, so progress may reset when you leave the page.
