About FEZ

FEZ is a puzzle platformer from Polytron Corporation, the studio of Phil Fish and Renaud Bédard. It came out on Xbox 360 in 2012, and a Windows version followed in 2013. You play Gomez, a small creature living in a flat, 2D village, until he’s handed a fez and learns that his world has a third dimension.

That discovery is the whole game. At any time you can rotate the world a quarter turn to see it from one of four sides. Each view is still flat, so platforms that look far apart from one angle can line up from another, and a route appears where there wasn’t one before. You use that trick to climb, explore and collect cubes scattered across a large, interconnected world.

There’s no combat. The challenge is reading the world correctly. FEZ also has a deeper layer of puzzles built on hidden codes and an in-game alphabet, which players famously worked together to crack after release.

How it runs in your browser

This version is an unofficial web port by gurtmuncher, hosted on wasm.rip. It plays right here on this page through the player above, with nothing to download or install.

Saves aren’t listed for this port, so the cubes you collect may not be kept after you leave. FEZ is relaxed enough to enjoy in short sessions, but for a full run toward all of its secrets, the official release is the safer way to keep your progress. It’s single-player only.

Controls and devices

You’ll need a computer for this port; phones and tablets aren’t supported, and controller support isn’t listed. A key list isn’t published here, so check the game’s own prompts when it starts. Rotating the view is the action you’ll use most, so it’s worth finding that key first.

Who it’s for

FEZ suits players who like exploration and puzzles more than reflex tests, and anyone who enjoys keeping a notebook of strange symbols. Its pixel art and quiet soundtrack also make it a calm game to wander through, even before you start on the harder secrets.

Is FEZ Free, Safe and Official?

Is this the official FEZ?

No. It’s an unofficial fan web port by gurtmuncher, and it isn’t made or endorsed by Polytron Corporation or Trapdoor.

Does FEZ save my progress in the browser?

Save support isn’t listed for this port, so collected cubes may be lost when you close the tab. The official release is better for a full playthrough.

Can I play FEZ on a phone or with a controller?

This port isn’t set up for phones or tablets, and controller support isn’t listed. Play it on a computer.
