About World at War Zombies
Call of Duty: World at War, released by Treyarch in 2008, hid a bonus mode behind its campaign: Nazi Zombies. Up to four players hold out in a ruined building against waves of the undead that grow tougher every round. Kills and barricade repairs earn points, and points buy weapons off the walls, open new areas and pay for spins of the Mystery Box. Later maps added perk machines and, in Der Riese, the Pack-a-Punch upgrade.
This browser version is a fan project that recreates the mode’s four maps: Nacht der Untoten, Verrückt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese. Online co-op isn’t listed for it, so expect to play these solo.
How it runs in your browser
There are two places to play, and both open in a new tab rather than on this page. waw.fun is the project’s main home. zombies.concentric.live is a second host; no differences between the two are noted, so if one is slow or won’t load, try the other.
There is one checkpoint before you play: the site puts up a question about whether you own Call of Duty: World at War. No game files are requested.
The game is built for a desktop browser and doesn’t support phones. Saving isn’t listed, which matters little in a mode where every game starts again at round one.
Controls and devices
Play with a keyboard and mouse. Controller support isn’t listed, and the key bindings aren’t listed here either, so check the game’s own settings once you load in. Browser shooters usually lock the mouse when you click into the game; press Esc to get your cursor back.
Tips
The habits from the original mode are a good starting point. In early rounds of World at War, a few body shots followed by a knife kill earned more points than a quick headshot, so slow, cheap kills paid for your first wall weapon. Rebuild barricades as zombies tear at them, since each board earns points. Don’t open every door at once, since more open space means more ways to get cornered. And once the rounds get serious, learn a loop around the map you can run with the horde behind you.
