About Super Mario Zombies
Two series that were never meant to meet share the screen in this fan game by 0xRishi. Its structure comes from the zombies mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010): you hold out on a map for as many rounds as you can, earning points that go toward weapons and perks. The enemies, though, come from the Mushroom Kingdom. Instead of the undead, the horde is made up of Goombas, Koopas and more than 20 other Mario characters.
The game covers the Black Ops 1 zombies maps, ten in total, from Kino der Toten through Moon. It’s a first-person shooter with horror roots, so even with cartoon enemies, the pressure builds as the rounds climb.
How it runs in your browser
Super Mario Zombies is hosted on smz.fun. When you press Play, it opens in our full-screen player, so you stay on this site. There’s nothing to download or install.
Saving isn’t listed as supported. That fits the format, since a zombies game is one long run on one map rather than a campaign you return to.
Controls and devices
Controller support is included, and you can also play with a keyboard and mouse. Phones aren’t listed as supported, so use a desktop or laptop. The exact bindings aren’t listed here; check the in-game settings once it loads. If you plan to use a controller, connect it before starting so the browser detects it.
Tips
If you’d like to see the later rounds without working your way up, try easy mode. Easy mode drops you in at round 10 with 50,000 points, all perks and upgraded wonder weapons, which makes it a good way to learn a map’s layout before playing it from the beginning.
Call of Duty zombies fans will recognize the maps they know, now filled with Nintendo enemies, while newcomers get a free zombies shooter that runs in a browser without a full game install.
