About Minecraft 1.8.8
Mojang Studios’ Minecraft formally launched in 2011 after a long public alpha and beta, and it has since become the best-selling video game of all time. You gather blocks, craft tools and build whatever you like, surviving the night in survival mode or building freely in creative. Survival adds hunger, hostile mobs after dark and the Nether, while creative gives you unlimited blocks and the ability to fly.
Version 1.8, the Bountiful Update from 2014, is the release this port is based on, and 1.8.8 was one of its later bug-fix builds. That version stayed popular for years, especially with PvP players, long after newer updates arrived. Because this is 1.8.8, blocks, mobs and features added in later Minecraft updates aren’t part of it.
How it runs in your browser
EaglercraftX is a fan project that rebuilds Minecraft 1.8.8 to run in a web browser. This listing is a WebAssembly build of it, hosted on WASM Arcade. Pressing Play opens wasmarcade.com in a new tab. There’s no launcher and no Java install.
Worlds stay on your device, in the browser’s local storage. That means they stay with that browser on that computer. Clearing site data, using a private window or switching to another browser or device will leave them behind.
Online play isn’t listed for this host, so treat it as a single-player version. For other ways to play, see our Minecraft hub.
Controls and devices
Play with a keyboard and mouse on a computer. Phones and controllers aren’t listed as supported. The Controls screen under Options shows the bindings and lets you change them, just as it does in the original 1.8.8.
Tips
Stick with one browser profile for your worlds, and avoid private or incognito windows if you want to keep what you build. If you’re on a shared or school computer, assume your worlds may not be there next time.
Is Minecraft 1.8.8 (EaglercraftX) Free, Safe and Official?
Is this the official Minecraft?
No. EaglercraftX is an unofficial fan project and is not affiliated with Mojang Studios or Microsoft. The official Java Edition is sold by Mojang.
Does Minecraft 1.8.8 save my worlds in the browser?
Yes. Worlds are stored in your browser on your device, so they stay between visits as long as you use the same browser and don’t clear its site data.
Can I play multiplayer?
Online play isn’t listed for this host, so expect a single-player experience. Our Minecraft hub lists other browser versions.
