About World of Warcraft Classic

World of Warcraft is Blizzard Entertainment’s online role-playing game, first released in 2004. In 2019 Blizzard launched World of Warcraft: Classic, which recreates the game as it stood at patch 1.12.1, around September 2006, before The Burning Crusade expansion. The level cap is 60, and you pick from the eight original races and the nine original classes, with paladins only for the Alliance and shamans only for the Horde. Official Classic realms need the Battle.net app and an active subscription.

Keldurn is not that game. It is an independent private realm that describes itself as compatible with the 1.12.1 era: experience at x1, a level cap of 60 and one persistent PvP realm where the Alliance and the Horde meet. Its pages list the classic zones, dungeons such as the Deadmines and Scarlet Monastery, and raids such as Molten Core and Onyxia’s Lair, plus Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley. It adds a short list of conveniences: cross-faction dungeon groups, a dungeon finder, a shared auction house and dual specialization.

How it runs in your browser

Pressing Play opens keldurn.com in a new tab. You need a free Keldurn account first, made with an email address and password or with Google, and the sign-in page also offers Discord. Keldurn says it never asks for a Battle.net password.

The site says the game isn’t streamed as video: it runs on your own device, inside the tab, and you don’t need a copy of the original game. It doesn’t say what the browser client is built on. The first entry into the world takes longer while the browser gets the game ready, and later visits from the same browser start faster. Private windows and cleared site data start that preparation again. Characters are saved on the realm, not in the browser. An optional Windows client uses the same account.

Playing is described as free, with no subscription. Keldurn’s privacy notice also mentions shop purchases, without saying what the shop sells.

On 3 November 2026, in desktop Chrome, keldurn.com loaded its landing page, which showed the realm as online, and the Play link led to a sign-in page. We didn’t create an account, so we didn’t see the game itself.

Controls and devices

On a computer you play with a keyboard and mouse, and the site suggests checking the key bindings in the game options. Don’t bind spells to browser shortcuts such as Ctrl+W or Cmd+W. Graphics acceleration must be switched on in the browser.

Keldurn recommends Chrome, Edge or Opera on Windows, Safari, Chrome or Edge on a Mac, Chrome on a Chromebook, Safari on iPhone and iPad, and Chrome on Android. On phones and tablets, touch controls sit over the classic interface, and you play in landscape. We haven’t tested any of these.

Who it’s for

It’s for players who want the 1.12 world without installing an old client, especially on a Mac, Chromebook or phone. If you’d rather jump straight into short player fights without an account, Arena of Champions is a fan-made, WoW-style arena game that runs in a browser.

Is World of Warcraft Classic (Keldurn) Free, Safe and Official?

Is Keldurn the official World of Warcraft Classic?

No. Keldurn is an independent private realm compatible with the 1.12.1 era. It isn’t affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment, and it doesn’t use or ask for a Battle.net account.

Can I play WoW in my browser for free?

Blizzard’s own Classic realms need the Battle.net app and a subscription. Keldurn says you can play its unofficial realm free in a browser tab from level 1 to 60, after creating a free account with an email address or Google.

Does Keldurn work on a phone?

The site says it does: Safari on iPhone and iPad, and Chrome on Android, with touch controls over the classic interface in landscape. We haven’t tested it on a phone, or in the game itself, because playing needs an account.
