About Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict

Unreal Championship 2 is a first- and third-person arena shooter developed by Epic Games and published by Midway Games for the Xbox in April 2005. It’s a direct sequel to 2002’s Unreal Championship and was designed around Xbox Live. It runs on Unreal Engine 2X, a version of Unreal Engine 2.5 that Epic built for the Xbox, and it scored 85 out of 100 on Metacritic.

It changes the Unreal Tournament formula in several ways. Each of the 14 characters carries a melee weapon, such as a blade or staff, used in third person, and can finish opponents with “Coup de grâce” moves. Characters are light, medium or heavy, a lock-on keeps a target on screen, and each one has six adrenaline powers. The Ascension Rites story follows Anubis as he tries to stop his former fiancée Selket from becoming the Nakhti empress. Multiplayer supports up to eight players across 50 maps, and Raiden from Mortal Kombat is an unlockable fighter.

How it runs in your browser

Unreal Engine Web Ports is a non-commercial fan project that compiles classic Unreal-engine games to WebAssembly, and says it isn’t affiliated with Epic Games. This is not an Xbox emulator: the site says the build is made from the retail release’s game files, engine build 2226. Pressing Play opens it on unrealcollection.games in a new tab.

The site serves the game data and asks you to budget about 2 GB of browser storage. Later launches start from the cache. A launcher lets you start at the menu or pick a map with mutators, upload mods (in beta, with a map pack and a Real Time Shadows mutator to try) and unlock all content.

Online play is peer to peer over WebRTC. Host a game and send the invite link, use a private room code, or browse games through the in-game Join System Link Game menu.

On 3 November 2026, in desktop Chrome, it loaded to the Unreal Championship 2 main menu, with Story Mode, Instant Action, Networked Combat, Profiles and Options. That took about four minutes and roughly 290 MB of downloads. We didn’t start a match.

Controls and devices

The site says gamepads work out of the box: press a button to connect, and several pads on one computer play split screen, up to four players. A keyboard and mouse also work, and a launcher setting can keep the keyboard as player one while pads join as players two to four. If the mouse doesn’t lock, press Esc, return to the game and left-click. Phones aren’t mentioned, and we haven’t tested one.

Who it’s for

It’s for anyone who played UC2 on the Xbox and never had a way to play it on a computer, and for Unreal Tournament fans curious about its melee-heavy console branch. For the PC series it branched from, see Unreal Tournament 2004 and the original Unreal Tournament.
