About Project I.G.I.: I’m Going In

Project I.G.I. is a tactical first-person shooter developed by Innerloop Studios and released for Windows by Eidos Interactive on December 8, 2000. Gavin Skinner designed it, Andrew Wensley directed it, Richard Carter and Frank Hom produced it, and Kim M. Jensen composed the music. Reviews were mixed: critics pointed to poor AI, no mid-game saves and no multiplayer, but praised the sound and graphics, helped by an engine Innerloop had used before in Joint Strike Fighter.

The single-player campaign runs through 14 missions, from Trainyard and SAM Base to Eagle’s Nest, Nuclear Infiltration and Finding the bomb. Along the way you rescue Josef Priboi from an airbase, kidnap Jach Priboi, get Jones across a border, storm Ekk’s hilltop fortress and track down the bomb at a nuclear base. You can play on Easy, Medium or Hard.

How it runs in your browser

Play opens playigi.com in a new tab, because the site doesn’t allow framing. It’s an anonymous fan site that calls itself “the first and original IGI browser port.” The site describes it as a native browser port built with three.js, not an emulator, and says it runs on almost every browser and phone with no special browser features. It serves the game data itself, so there’s nothing to download or install and no account to make.

Credits on the site read “Textures by Sachal and the Neonix Modding Team,” and its download page says the port includes Neonix Remastered 1.4, a fan patch. That page has no file to download; it sends you to the browser version and lists IGI 2: Covert Strike as “coming soon.”

On 1 November 2026, in desktop Chrome, playigi.com/game loaded to a main menu styled like the original: Play Project IGI, Configuration, Select Player, Cheats and Quit. We didn’t play a mission. The game page requested files only from playigi.com, data.playigi.com and Cloudflare’s analytics. As the site is new and anonymous, don’t download programs or enter personal details on look-alike sites that claim to be this port.

Controls and devices

The site’s guide gives the original game’s default keys, all of which can be remapped under Configuration, Controls. The arrow keys move you, the left mouse button fires and the right one picks the next weapon. Backspace is alternate fire, Return reloads, Right Shift activates and Right Control crouches. Numpad 0 jumps and Numpad 1 peeks. Keys 1 to 9 choose weapon categories, Space raises binoculars, Page Up and Page Down zoom, C opens the map computer and W switches between walking and running.

The home page has separate Play on PC and Play on Mobile buttons. On iPhone or iPad, the site suggests opening playigi.com/game in Safari and choosing Share, then Add to Home Screen; on Android, open it in Chrome and pick Install app from the menu, after which it starts full screen. We haven’t tested it on a phone.

Who it’s for

It’s for players who remember IGI from its PC release and want to revisit the campaign, and for newcomers curious about a stealth shooter from 2000. For another spy story from the same year that runs in a browser, try No One Lives Forever.
