About Hill Climb Racing
Fingersoft’s founder, Toni Fingerroos, created Hill Climb Racing, a 2D physics driving game that the Finnish studio released in 2012. It became the company’s best-known game, especially on Android and iOS. You drive as Bill Newton across bumpy, hilly terrain, and the goal is simple: get as far as you can before you run out of fuel or flip over and land on your head.
Along the way you collect fuel cans to keep going and coins to spend on upgrades, new vehicles and new stages. Improving the engine, suspension and tires changes how your vehicle handles, so each run tends to go a little further than the last. That loop of short runs and steady upgrades is what kept so many people playing it on their phones.
How the web port works
This browser version is an unofficial port credited to NotRexed and hosted on wasm.rip. It plays right on this page, with nothing to install.
Saving isn’t listed for the port, so coins and upgrades may not carry over once you close the tab. That matters for a game built around gradual progress, so think of the browser version as a way to play a few runs rather than to unlock everything.
Controls and devices
The game is built around two inputs, gas and brake, which also tip your vehicle backward or forward while it is in the air. The port’s keys aren’t listed here, so check the game’s screen when it loads to see which ones handle gas and brake.
Even though the original is a mobile game, this browser port isn’t listed as working on phones, and controllers aren’t supported. On a phone, the official Hill Climb Racing app is the better option.
Tips
Ease off the gas near the top of a hill. Too much speed launches the vehicle into a flip, and a light touch on the brake in the air helps you land on your wheels.
Watch the fuel gauge more than the distance counter. Running dry ends a run just as surely as a crash, so it is often worth slowing down to grab a fuel can.
