Blizzard Entertainment released Warcraft: Orcs & Humans for MS-DOS in November 1994. It was the first game in the Warcraft universe: a real-time strategy game about the war between the humans of Azeroth and the invading orcs. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness followed in December 1995 and won most of the major PC gaming awards of 1996, and the Beyond the Dark Portal expansion arrived the same year.
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos came out in July 2002, the first in the series in three dimensions, and its expansion The Frozen Throne followed in 2003. World of Warcraft (2004) turned the setting into an online role-playing game, and Warcraft III: Reforged (2020) remade the third game. Blizzard has been part of Microsoft since 2023.
All three open dos.zone in a new tab. There’s nothing to install, no account and no ads. The first two run on js-dos, DOS.Zone’s browser version of DOSBox.
To play the series in order, start with Orcs & Humans and move on to Warcraft II, which is the one most people remember from the 1990s. Warcraft III is the pick for multiplayer and for custom maps such as tower defense, but it doesn’t include the story campaigns. All three need a keyboard and mouse. For a fan-made arena game built from Warcraft III art, see Arena of Champions, and for more strategy games, try Command & Conquer or Age of Empires II.
No. All three run on DOS.Zone, and none is made or endorsed by Blizzard Entertainment. They could be taken down at the rights holder’s request.
DOS.Zone runs multiplayer rooms for Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II, and its Warcraft III port offers co-op and PvP in real time. We haven’t tested how well online matches run.
Not on the version listed here. The Warcraft III port is for melee and custom maps, and the Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne campaigns aren’t listed as playable.
